Children’s summer camps at churches are a great opportunity for effective, and most importantly, learning something new and useful. Especially when it concerns the study of nature and ways to preserve it. It’s the protection of nature that is the core issue in the modern world and it needs to be communicated to as many people as possible. It’s significant to convey this topic to children and the possibility of highlighting it with the help of one of the most influential institutions – the church. It’s the combination of these two components that makes church camps so important and necessary.

A workshop on making bat boxes and bird houses was held for children from the summer Christian camp on August 10th. The event was conducted by Andriy Donichenko, head of the organization of people with disabilities “Parallelny svit” (Parallel world). During the workshop, the children had time to learn something new and use their imagination and creative abilities.

Participants decorated houses for birds and bats with bright colors and later learned to install them, thus giving the opportunity to find a home for our winged friends who may have lost it precisely because of human activity or inaction thereby helping the animal world, which is in jeopardy every day.

By painting and assembling the structures of the future houses, the children received pleasant memories from the workshop, which, in the future, may have a positive effect on their desire for environmental protection activities. After all, art is exactly the tool with which you can reach out to youth and motivate many people to positive activities. In memory of the event, the children received the badges.

The event was held within the framework of cooperation between the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies- IERS (headed by Alexander Bokotey) and the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU Bundesverband NABU International ), project coordinator Ivan TymofeievNataliya Kulya (IERS).
