Berehovo gymnasium students learn to watch birds

Students from the “Opre Roma” gymnasium in Berehovo, including Roma children, recently visited the “Everyone Can Help” volunteer center for an educational excursion. Their goal was to explore the world of bird observation and learn about different bird nest structures and feeders. Leonid Pokrytyuk, an experienced ornithologist at the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies led them on this journey.

Fifth-graders of Rativtsi Gymnasium took part in the quest “Find Primroses”

Krystyna Solanska, a teacher at Rativtsi Gymnasium and an eco-activist of the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies (IERS), organized a search quest named “Find the Primroses” for 5th-grade students who learn in Hungarian. This activity aimed for the students to identify the first spring flowers in the school yard and nearby fields, and to practice saying their names in Ukrainian, English, and Hungarian.

A workshop “Easter eggs by birds” in Uzhhorod Gymnasium #13

The Nature Branch of the Transcarpathian Regional Museum of Local Lore, in collaboration with experts of the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies, recently conducted a workshop titled “Easter Eggs by Birds” for Roma children attending Uzhhorod Gymnasium No. 13. Researchers Ruslana Dzhahman and Mykhailo Bilanych led the workshop, guiding the children through a hands-on exploration of bird egg laying and coloration, as well as the importance of respecting bird nests in nature.

Raffle off the next puppet sets for the eco-theater “Explore the World with Us!”

At the start of this year, the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies distributed 30 sets of puppetry materials for the eco-theater production “Explore the World with Us!” to educators across Ukraine. Due to the overwhelmingly positive feedback received and the continuous demand for these sets, the decision was made to offer another opportunity for educators to acquire them for environmental education and child development initiatives.

Observation of sparrows on World Sparrow Day

On March 20, Orysia Krechko, a biology teacher at Turye-Remety Secondary School and an eco-activist of the IERS, arranged an educational activity focused on sparrow birds with her 10th-grade students to commemorate World Sparrow Day. They opted to go on a sparrow-watching excursion to honor the event. During the journey to the observation site, Orysia Krechko mentioned that sparrows are common birds in Ukraine and globally. Sparrows have been close companions to humans and seldom nest in the wild.
