Spring is full of colors and delights people’s eyes and all living beings. This generosity of nature was once again used by experts from the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies and the staff of the Berehovo Charitable Center “Everyone can help” for a workshop on creating spring arrangements from flowers. Children from 6 years old and even adults took part in the ecological and educational event.

The organizers carefully prepared to create flower arrangements. This time, in particular, new plant species that had not been used in previous similar workshops. Yellow iris (collected during a recent ornithological tour) was used to replace the bright yellow flowers of kerria; lilac was replaced by jasmine and flowering viburnum; sword-shaped iris was replaced by ostrich feather and frond leaves; blue forget-me-nots were replaced by flowers of decorative onions.

Biologist, ornithologist, and expert of the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies Leonid Pokrytyuk

During the ecological and educational event, an experienced biologist, and expert of the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies Leonid Pokrytyuk told the participants about the healing properties of plants, shared secrets of making tea from young hawthorn leaves, rosa canina hips, and pears explained how to distinguish edible ferns from poisonous, how to make sweet jam from burdock roots (without using sugar). The story turned out to be really interesting, so it is not surprising that the participants literally asked Mr. Leonid a bunch of questions. Everyone was satisfied with their answers. Our biologist discovered the secrets of nature professionally, arguably, interestingly, and sometimes with humor.

The event was held in cooperation with the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies- IERS (headed by Alexander Bokotey) and the German Nature Conservation Union (#NABU), project coordinator Ivan Tymofeiev.
