Another workshop “Bird ringing” was held on July 27th at the volunteer center “Everyone can help” in Berehovo. Ringing nestlings is a troublesome and responsible matter. It is necessary to safely get the nestling out of the nest box, carry out biometric measurements, carefully hook the rings and bring the nestling back to the nest. This kind of work is difficult to do alone. This time the assistants were visitors to the volunteer center.

The nest structure was removed from the tree and carefully let down to the ground. One nestling was found in the nest (the rest, due to the noise from the repair and construction works, left the box earlier). The owlet was weighed, measured, ringed, and returned to the nest box.

The participants got acquainted with the biology of the owlet and learned why birds are ringed and what measures scientists are taking to protect them. Such close contacts with birds are always very emotional, they engender love and interest in birds, and form a respectful attitude towards nature.

The event was held as part of the cooperation of the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies –  IERS (headed by Alexander Bokotey) and the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU Bundesverband NABU International ), project coordinator Ivan TymofeievNataliya Kulya (IERS).
