On August 20, 2022, we will celebrate the 160th anniversary of the birth of the famous Uzhhorod naturalist and teacher of the late 19th – early 20th centuries, the founder of the famous city park of exotic plants – Istvan Laudon. Currently, visitors to the Transcarpathian Regional Museum of Local Lore named after T. Legotskyj can learn more about this scholar by visiting the exhibition “Life’s versatility of Istvan Laudon” (authors: R. Dzhahman and, M. Bilanych), which was opened in the exhibition gallery of the museum on August 18 at 2:00 p.m.
The exhibition was presented and moderated by Valeriya Rusyn, head of the Department of History and Local History. At the exhibition were Adalbert Rishko (member of the Transcarpathian Nature Conservation Society), Oleksandr Bokotey (head of the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies), Tetyana Literati (honorary citizen of Uzhgorod and journalist), Myroslav Shevera (employee of the Institute of Botany named after M. G. Kholodny of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine), Arpad Kron (head of the Zoological Museum of the Uzhhorod National University) and other distinguished guests and all interested parties.
The main author – senior researcher of the Nature Branch of the museum Ruslana Dzhahman told the audience about the exhibition and its creation. Everyone was interested to learn about this extraordinary personality: a teacher, scientist, researcher, naturalist, traveler, defender of the homeland, and even a winemaker according to the family tradition. Istvan Laudon was a person who really and truly loved nature, studied it, and cared for it. One of the historical proofs of such love was the magnificent garden he founded at that time – the decoration of the city.
Those, who were present, had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the exhibits and enjoy a sweet treat after the story. A tour of the cellars of the Uzhhorod Castle was held for all those interested.
The event was held as part of the cooperation of the Transcarpathian Regional Museum of Local Lore named after T. Legotskyj with the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies – IERS (headed by Alexander Bokotey) and the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU Bundesverband NABU International ), project coordinator Ivan Tymofeiev, Nataliya Kulya (IERS).
