The volunteers had the opportunity to receive guests – students of the Berehovo Gymnasium “Opre Roma” with the assistance of Svitlana Chyryban. Leonid Pokrytyuk, an expert of the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies, conducted an educational tour for the schoolchildren, introduced them to the feathered inhabitants of the county court, demonstrated a home for swallows, a nest for storks, and bird feeders. A pair of Djungarian hamsters, rare mice, and decorative rats are kept in the volunteer center. They also breed yellow mealworm beetles and exotic Zophobas to feed the center’s birds. Johnson and Baidi (storks) are the decoration of the volunteer center. There is always a buzz around them: many people want to see and treat them.

The handsome Eurasian hobby is undergoing rehabilitation. After an injury, the wing regains the ability to fly. It is also being prepared for release into the wild, so they are trying to limit the contact of people with the bird to avoid getting used to people. A rook that got to the volunteers, as an adult, is wary and can be lured out of the shelter only with the help of treats – a piece of cheese. The favorite of Harry Potter fans, the little owl, allowed himself to be seen up close. He is often a guest at creative classes: drawing, workshops, and making birdhouses; therefore, probably, so that’s why he got used to children’s noise.

Mr. Leonid introduced the audience to the birds that willingly settle in holes, which requirements must be followed when making birdhouses – the size of the birdhouse and the type of structure, the location, and the height depending on which birds can settle there. A workshop “Home for birds” was held with the participation of a volunteer and craftsman Oleksandr (a doctor by profession, an IDP from Kharkiv). Under Oleksandr’s guidance, the children made a house for a great tit, which they hung on an old cherry tree on the territory of the Betleni County Estate. The children also had a unique opportunity to visit a unique museum – the Museum of the Berehovo Region, which is located on the territory of the “Count’s Yard” at the address: Berehove, str. Bethlena, 1.

The event was held within the framework of cooperation between the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies – IERS (headed by Alexander Bokotey) and the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU Bundesverband NABU International ), and project coordinators are Ivan TymofeievNataliya Kulya (IERS).
