Clean water is one of the main resources of mankind. Its value is especially recognized in times of war when the probability of pollution of natural reservoirs is quite high, and water shortages can sometimes be a humanitarian catastrophe. Among the centers of ecologically clean places of Ukrainian nature is Synevyr Lake. Like the “Sea Eye”, it tears with crystal water, which flows out of the ground in a streamlet – Synevyr stream. So there are 3 constant streams. The water level in the lake varies depending on the season: it decreases in autumn and increases in spring, and now is the peak of the flooding. The amplitude of water level fluctuations reaches 4 – 4.5 m and the area of the water mirror changes from 4.5 to 7.5 ha.
Synevyr is a unique place, probably the cleanest lake in Ukraine. Keeping it in the same condition is an important task for everyone who comes here. Topics about the unique Lake Synevyr, its current state, and careful treatment of it by visitors were covered during the environmental education event, which took place on May 3rd in the Synevyr National Nature Park.
The special focus of the event is the lake which is a wetland of international importance. It’s valuable not only for its clean, oxygen-rich water and beautiful environment but also as an environment that supports the existence of a number of populations of species, including rare birds, namely black storks, horned owls, lesser spotted eagles, waterfowl that stop here during flights. The organizers of the event in an accessible and simple way told the participants about the richness and value of biological diversity of the land of Lake Synevyr and encouraged them to be caring lovers of the unique beauty of the Carpathians.
The event was held in cooperation with the Institute of Ecological and Religious Studies- IERS (headed by Alexander Bokotey) and the German Nature Conservation Union (#NABU), project coordinator Ivan Tymofeiev.
